I am a native English speaker with over a year experience of teaching English in both Luxembourg and Germany to groups or individuals. My experience ranges from teaching general English to business English for general use or sector specific, ranging from preparing professional presentations, to participating in meetings and negotiations, telephoning, preparation for interviews, emails and report writing.
When delivering one-to-one courses, I make sure to design lessons in accordance with the client’s needs, whereas with regard to the delivery of lessons to small groups I adapt topics that are of interest to the students in the group, whilst also being useful and relevant.
Being myself fairly new to Germany and Luxembourg I can understand the communication difficulties that my students encounter. Furthermore, I am also a student of a new language (German), and therefore I can understand perfectly well the challenges of learning a language. My understanding of these difficulties, combined with my love for teaching and learning, is used to provide a positive learning environment for my students, as well as making them feel more confident when expressing themselves in English.
Before moving to Germany, I also taught English to foreign students in Malta, during the course of my University studies. Following my graduation, my professional development took me through various career paths, whereby I held various positions within the Malta Public Service, as well as the private sector. My 15 years experience in various senior management positions in operations management, finance, project management, policy analysis, market research, marketing and telecommunications, hospitality, aviation, EU matters and EU funding, combined with knowledge acquired during my reading for a Masters in Business Administration, has been put to good use, both in Luxembourg and in Malta, having assisted various professionals to improve their English language and communication skills to meet sector specific needs.
In fact, during this period I was invited to train the newly recruited employees in the Malta Public Service in general English (2003-2006), as well as, to deliver training, and chair workshops, on performance and operations management to members of the Commonwealth Association for Public Administration and Management (2013-2014). Between 2016 and 2017 I was invited to give training to the CEOs of Maltese municipalities with regard to legal provisions and financial and business matters.
I hold a first degree in English with Honours having read for a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Malta, specialising in Linguistics. In addition,I also have successfully completed training in teaching English to foreign students at the European School of English (Malta) where I obtained my TEFL Certificate.
